I am a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and of The Central Association
of Agricultural Valuers. I am also a member of the Panel of Arbitrators from which appointments are made by the President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, having been a member of the Lord Chancellor's Panel of Agricultural Arbitrators (from 1992). I am also a member of the Agricultural Law Association and ARBRIX.
With the background of a long family tradition in dairy farming and being a dairy farmer's son, I commenced work as a trainee Agricultural Auctioneer and Valuer at Bentham in 1961 (at the age of 16) with Messrs. Richard Turner & Son. I qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and as a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers in 1971. I was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1982. I joined The Kendal & District Auction Mart plc on 1st December, 1982, now the L&K Group Plc. The PLC have a wholly owned subsidiary, MB Hodgson & Son Ltd, which runs the Estate Agency and Professional Services department of the PLC. I am a Director of MB Hodgson & Son Ltd and Manager of the Kendal office of MB Hodgson & Son Ltd as well as Head of the Professional Services department. My normal geographical area of employment takes in the Counties of Cumbria (which reaches to the Scottish borders), Lancashire, North Yorkshire and parts of Greater Manchester.
I have operated as a Rural Property and Agricultural Auctioneer and Valuer and Surveyor for almost 46 years, dealing with all aspects of the work involved in being a Rural Chartered Surveyor.
